Tony Fan-Cheong Chan (Chinese: é³çıĉ) is a Hong Kong-born[1] mathematician and President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 1 September 2009.
He succeeded Chu Ching-wu who retired from HKUST in August 2009.[2]
Tony Chan worked at UCLA and at the National Science Foundation.[3] He is a co-founder of the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics, an NSF-funded institute at UCLA. He has been listed as an ISI Highly Cited Author in Mathematics by the ISI Web of Knowledge, Thomson Scientific Company.[4]
Born in Hong Kong, Chan attended Salesian English School and Queen's College in Hong Kong.[1]
